What platforms does
GameHost support?
The server piece runs on
WinNT/Win2000/WinXP and the client pieces run on all Win32 platforms.
Windows 95 requires DCOM, which comes with IE4, IE5, OSR2 and later, or you can
download DCOM as a separate download from Microsoft.
Can I try GameHost before I buy it?
By all means, please do! You'll
have 30 days from when you first start the GameHost server to find out if
GameHost is worth buying.
Will my QHost licenses work with
GameHost?
No. GameHost is a completely
different product from QHost. However, we're offering an upgrade to
registered QHost users for 50% off the regular price.
Will my QHost game server and
user settings work with GameHost?
No. You'll have to enter this information again
with GameHost.
What games does
GameHost support?
As stated earlier, the server portion of GameHost only
works on Windows NT/Windows 2000/Windows XP. The client version works on
all Win32 platforms. The following games are supported:
Quake, QuakeWorld, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Hexen II,
Half-Life, Sin, Starsiege TRIBES, Unreal Tournament and Return to Castle
Wolfenstein.
Can I use custom game mods (like CTF)
with GameHost?
Yes. When you setup a
game server, you can set the game directory to use the mod of your choice.
How do I add command-line parameters
to my game server?
GameHost's goal is to keep the user from ever
having to edit the actual command-line for game servers. However, if you
really want to add your own command-line parameters (for example, if you want
to execute your own configuration file when the server launches), here's how
you do it:
1) Select a game server in the GameHost tree.
2) Select 'Properties' from the menu.
3) Go to the 'Properties' tab.
4) Edit the 'Extra Parameters' property. GameHost will add this
property's value to the command-line when launching the server.
How much do licenses cost?
New licenses cost $39.95 (required for each
computer running the GameHost server, and not required for GameHost
consoles). Upgrades from QHost to GameHost cost $19.95.
How do I order a GameHost
License?
Go here to order
GameHost.
Why
doesn't the GameHost console show the connected Half-life players?
Upgrade to Half-life 1.0.0.9
and you'll be able to see the players and real-time properties in the GameHost
console.
Why don't you support
<insert game here>?
If you have a game you would like to see us support,
let us know. If enough people ask for it, and if it's technically
possible (see the above question about Unreal), we'll do it.
How do I run multiple
copies of <insert game here> from more than one install directory?
The trick is to modify the games.ini file found
in your server's GameHost directory. Here's how you would do this for
Quake II:
1) Add a line like ‘g10=Quake II Mod’ to the [Games]
section.
2) Copy the lines from the [Quake II] section into a new section.
Name it the same as the line from #1 above (e.g. [Quake II Mod]).
3) Run the GameHost Settings application found in the GameHost program group.
4) Set the path to the ‘Quake II Mod’ (or whatever you called it).
5) Connect to the server using the GameHost Console and add a new game server
of type ‘Quake II Mod’.
